World’s smallest 15.6” gaming laptop, available with up to GeForce RTX 2080 GPU with Max-Q design, delivers high framerates and quick renders
IRVINE, Calif. – Razer™, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, announced today a new range of the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model gaming laptops. This update to the award-winning Razer Blade 15 is centered around increased graphics performance with the inclusion of new NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 20-series GPUs, delivering a whole new way to experience gaming on-the-go.
All models are powered by the latest 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8750H 6 core processor, and feature 16GB of dual-channel system memory with up to 512 GB of fast SSD storage, in addition to a new Windows Hello-capable IR camera for easy and secure login via facial recognition.
The Base Model of the Razer Blade 15 will remain available to gamers seeking additional storage capacity and connectivity, featuring the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU with Max-Q design and a CNC-milled compact aluminum chassis, from $1,599.
GRAPHICS REINVENTEDNVIDIA GeForce RTX 20-series graphics provide the ultimate PC gaming experience. Powered by the new NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture and the revolutionary RTX platform, these processors bring together real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading. The new Advanced Models of the Razer Blade 15 will be available with a choice of RTX 2060 (6 GB GDDR6), RTX 2070 (8 GB GDDR6), or the RTX 2080 (8 GB GDDR6), with the top two configurations using a Max-Q design to ensure performance and user comfort within the compact Razer Blade 15 laptop.
“Gamers demand the best performance when it comes to PC graphics, and the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 20 Series GPUs fuse the performance of next generation shaders with real-time ray tracing and AI, blurring the line between movies and gaming, with cinematic-quality rendering,” said Kaustubh Sanghani, general manager, GeForce OEM at NVIDIA. “Seeing this technology available in a super compact laptop based on Max-Q design principles, such as the new Razer Blade 15, gives users a new level of graphics performance in a highly mobile platform.”
VISUAL EXPERIENCEThe 15.6” Full HD (1920 x 1080) displays have 144 Hz refresh rates, driven by the new GeForce RTX 20-series GPUs to provide precise and fast game visuals and entertainment with full-frame fluidity and 100% sRGB color. Creative users that demand higher resolution and a wider color gamut can step up to a 4K (3840 x 2160) display with touchscreen functionality and 100% Adobe™ RGB color support.
Each laptop display is individually custom calibrated in production for amazing color accuracy out-of-the-box. All models feature 4.9mm thin bezels flanking the display, while the new Windows Hello-capable IR face camera retains the ideal placement at the top of the screen, allowing for easy and secure login via facial recognition. The HD Webcam is matched with a dual-array microphone setup for streaming, video conferencing and voice assistants.
Razer will also showcase at CES two new innovative display technologies being evaluated for the Razer Blade 15 in the future. The first showcase is Blade 15 with a 15.6” Full HD display capable of 240 Hz refresh rates for incredibly fluid gaming. The other Blade 15 showcase sports a 4K OLED touch display, delivering amazing color, deep blacks, and efficient performance.
COMPACT PERFORMANCEThe Razer Blade 15 currently holds the title of world’s smallest 15.6-inch gaming laptop1, with a minimal footprint and a thinness of 0.70 inches for ultimate mobility.
The chassis is individually CNC-milled from a single aluminum block to provide a sturdy yet lightweight design, and features a scratch-resistant anodized black finish.
Managing heat without sacrificing performance in such a small form factor is no easy task, but the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model utilizes vapor chamber technology for the cooling solution instead of the traditional heat pipes found in most gaming laptops.
Beyond cooling the CPU and GPU, the vacuum-sealed vaporized liquid helps dissipate the heat generated from other components within the laptop. Ultra-thin nanoparticle material and graphite-based server grade thermal interfaces reduce hot spots and facilitate heat transfer, while high-performance low-noise fans push air across dual heat exchanges with 0.1mm thin fins, quickly moving heat out of the chassis and away from the user.
FASTER MEMORYThe new GeForce RTX 20-series GPUs utilize GDDR6 memory, the fastest memory in the world. To complement the increased performance provided by the new GPUs and for extreme multitasking, Razer equips every Razer Blade 15 model with 16 GB of DDR4-2667 MHz dual-channel system memory. For users looking to push the performance even further, the expandable memory slots now support the installation of Intel® XMP compatible memory, with speeds up to 3200 MHz for increased bandwidth.
Fast PCIe SSD storage is provided with configurations up to 512 GB, with support for up to 2 TB of storage and up to 64 GB of system memory.
“The award-winning Razer Blade 15 is an ideal device for the latest NVIDIA Turing graphics processors, up to the GeForce RTX 2080, allowing gamers to take their visual experiences to new levels,” says Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. “Fluid, lifelike visuals are displayed on the expansive 15.6-inch Full HD panel with refresh rates of 144Hz, and the compact Max-Q design makes the laptop perfect for gamers on-the-go.”
The anti-ghosting keyboard is powered by Razer Chroma and offers 16.8 million colors per key, customizable through Razer Synapse 3 software. New power management options are also available, including modes to boost graphics performance or maximize the run time of the built-in 80Wh battery. Sound is delivered through improved dual front-firing speakers and features Dolby Atmos for immersive audio with deeper bass response.
A large, clickable precision glass touchpad provides accuracy and gesture support. Connectivity options includes the ability to output to up to three external displays via Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, and Thunderbolt™ 3. Connect peripheral devices to the laptop with three USB 3.1 ports, and headsets via the 3.5mm combo audio port.
INCREASED CHOICEThe Razer Blade 15 family of laptops now covers a range of performance options for consumers from the dual-storage, 60 Hz Full HD Base Models with a GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, through the new Advanced Models with a 144 Hz Full HD display and up to the GeForce RTX 2080 GPU, all with Max-Q design.
Razer also is releasing versions of the popular Mercury White edition, offering configurations with the RTX 2060 (available exclusively at Razer.com and Best Buy), or the RTX 2070 with Max-Q design (available only at Razer.com).
The new Razer Blade 15 Gaming Laptops with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20-series GPUs start at $2,299 and will be available beginning January 29 from Razer.com and select retailers in the United States, Canada, France, United Kingdom, Germany, and China.

Samsung will announce its new phones on February 20. As is often the case, we already know an awful lot about these mobiles. A masala of leaks, rumours and reports from “insider sources” make it seem there’s nothing more to know about the Galaxy S10 and its siblings.
But what are those rumours? And how trustworthy are they? Let’s take a look and guide you through the utter nonsense to reveal the hidden nuggets of truth.Three main models for February
Likelihood: very high
Samsung’s S-series flagships usually come in two flavours, the standard phone and the larger “Plus” model, which has a larger battery and an extra camera. However, this year we’ll likely see three models.
The main two are familiar. There’s a 6.1-inch Galaxy S10 and a 6.4-inch Galaxy S10 Plus. A larger screen and additional front camera marks the Plus model as the enthusiast’s choice, at least until the next Note model arrives later in the year.
A Samsung Galaxy S10E fills in the line-up. Its main role is to soften the sting of rising phone prices, much like the iPhone XR. This will likely be marketed as the “accessible” alternative. It has the same processor, but a smaller screen with much less pronounced curvature and “only” three cameras, two on the back and one up front. This should significantly reduce its production cost. However, the Galaxy S10E will likely only look affordable in comparison with its siblings, not in isolation.Samsung Galaxy S10 X
Some also believe we’ll see a fourth S10 on February 20, the S10 X. If real, this is expected to be an even larger alternative to the Galaxy S10 Plus, with a 6.7-inch screen. It also supposedly has 1TB storage and 5G, making it a showcase of tech, rather than an entirely practical proposition for the average buyer with a contract up for renewal.
There’s another reason to query this rumour. The upcoming Samsung folding phone has been dubbed the “Galaxy X”, too. It seems unlikely Samsung would want to recycle a name for such a show-off device. These are the best phones in 2019 Pricing
The Samsung Galaxy S10 prices matter, and not just in terms of whether you can afford them or not. They will affect the pricing of subsequent high-end phones. Gizmodo claims to have received pricing information from a “reliable” source. And there are no great surprises here.
The Samsung Galaxy S10E will reportedly cost £669, with 128GB storage. You’ll pay £799 for the Samsung Galaxy S10 and £899 for the Galaxy S10 Plus. These two can be upgraded from 128GB storage to 512GB for £200.
Samsung’s more contentious Galaxy S10 X will cost £1,399 according to the leak, and has 1TB storage.Infinity O displays
Likelihood: extremely high
If you’re hoping for a folding Samsung Galaxy S10 phone in February, forget it. Samsung is working on a phone with a folding screen, but it won’t be part of the main S10 line.
The “Infinity O” display is likely to be the main design feature of the S10 family. We’ve already seen this style of screen in other phones, including the Honor View 20 and Samsung’s own Galaxy A8S. It’s where a hole appears to be cut out of the screen to fit in the front camera, or cameras.
Panel type is the big difference, though. To date all punch-hole phones have had LCD displays. The Galaxy S10 will debut Samsung Display’s own OLED solution. This may earn a drum roll, as these panels will likely eventually appear in other high-end punch-hole phones, including iPhones if Apple takes such a design route.
However, in theory these should actually be easier to produce than a punch-hole LCD. OLEDs have light-up pixels, so no consideration of the light path of a backlight’s LED is needed.
The innovation of punch-hole display tech has already happened. Getting it out to the public is the Galaxy S10’s job.Snapdragon 855/Exynos 9820 CPUs
Likelihood: extremely high
Samsung flagships tend to use both Samsung and Qualcomm chipsets, depending on the model and territory in question. If this continues, the Galaxy S10 twins will either use a Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820.
The Exynos chipset is somewhat similar to the Kirin 980 already used in top Honor and Huawei phones. It bundles its cores into three clusters rather than two, and uses a Mali-G76 GPU. The Exynos has two more graphics cores, though.
Limits of high-end mobile phone hardware are a legitimate concern for only a tiny fraction of real people. But the Snapdragon 855 likely has a much more powerful graphics chipset, based on Qualcomm’s own claims. This CPU is the Adreno 640. Qualcomm says it’s 20 per cent more powerful than the Adreno 630 it replaces.
Processor stats may constitute some of the most believable Galaxy S10 rumours. But they are also some of the least interesting. The Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9820 were announced in 2018.48MP camera versus 12MP camera
Likelihood: 48MP: low; 12MP: high
Over the last few years, most high-end phones used 12-megapixel main cameras. Such relatively low-resolution chips allow for high-sensitivity sensor pixels, which provide good performance at night. And great pixel-level sharpness during the day when paired with a decent lens and smart software.
We’ve reached a fork, though. Samsung and Sony have built 48-megapixel sensors for phones that use a process called pixel binning. In this case it means four sensor pixels can be grouped and treated as a single one. As in the Huawei P20 Pro and Honor View 20, this can lead to great low-light image quality and potential for very high-detail day photos.
In October 2018, many thought the Galaxy S10 family would use these sensors. However, just weeks before release most believe they will use an arguably more conventional array.
The Galaxy S10 phones are likely to have a 12-megapixel standard view camera and a 12-megapixel zoom camera. A question mark lies over the third, spotted in scores of renders of the S10 and S10 Plus, but not the S10E. This could be a standard depth sensor, which seems unlikely, an ultra-wide camera or a ToF 3D depth camera similar to those used in the Oppo RX17 Pro and Honor View 20.
A ToF, or time-of-flight, camera uses a laser or near-IR transmitter to “invisibly” illuminate objects, and the sensor judges their distance based on an analysis of the reflected signal. Similar techniques are used in IR camera aufocus aids, but a ToF camera can be used to analyse scene depths per-pixel.
Of course, stereoscopic depth systems attempt to do the same. They just don’t do so as well, particularly as such depth systems in phones tend to use sensors of different quality and resolution. A ToF camera should make it easier to, for example, track people’s limbs in AR games and apps.
There’s a problem. Google’s ARCore augmented reality platform does not support ToF hardware yet. Any applications for it until this changes will boil down to manufacturer-specific gimmicks. Let’s hope Oppo and Honor know something we don’t, as they have already implemented ToF cameras. Otherwise it suggests their design policy is to shove any new piece of tech in a phone with no justification beyond novelty.
Samsung’s design process used to look a little like this, but it certainly does not nowadays. These are the best Android phones in 2019 5G
5G has been around as a tech buzzword for so long, it makes “blockchain” seem a sapling. However, rumours suggest the S10 and S10 Plus will not be the models to actually have the requisite hardware for it.
Either the Galaxy S10 X or Galaxy X, Samsung’s folding phone, is expected to be first, arriving a little after the S10 phones. This won’t be truly mainstream phones, so why isn’t 5G in the popular models?
OnePlus CEO Carl Pei suggested in 2018 that 5G will add several hundred dollars to the price of its first phone with next-gen mobile internet. Phone prices are already contentious. There’s also arguably no great benefit to a 5G phone in 2019.
5G standards were only nailed down in 2018, and actual 5G trials are in their infancy in the US. Adding 5G to a phone like the S10 brings more cost then benefit right now.Qualcomm Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner
Likelihood: medium to high
The Galaxy S10 phones are expected to use an in-screen fingerprint scanner. These are used in many higher end phones, including the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and OnePlus 6T.
However, the Galaxy S10’s is a little different. The phones are expected to use one of Qualcomm’s ultrasonic scanners. Rather than using an optical scan of your finger, it sends an inaudible high-frequency pulse across your finger, and then analyses the returned signal. This is affected by the bumps and ridges of your finger, letting it effectively map your print. The technology apparently isn’t thrown off by wet fingers. Optical and capacitive solutions often are.
Qualcomm has made ultrasonic finger scanners since 2016, but this will be the first time we’ve seen one embedded in a display.Wi-Fi 6
Likelihood: medium to high
The next generation of Wi-Fi is the Samsung Galaxy S10 feature most likely to be ignored. It is important, but is no more than a generational shift likely to become invisible before it is even noticed by most.
Some call it Wi-Fi 6, others call it Wi-FI ax, which shows more clearly this is the successor to Wi-Fi ac most phones and routers have. The differences? Largely the same kinds of improvements seen in other recent generations of Wi-Fi.
The theoretical speed ceiling is raised hugely, with at least 4x throughput increase. It can connect to more devices at the same time, more quickly. And, the most important feature for the Galaxy S10 family itself, it uses less power. However, to get Wi-Fi 6 benefits you’ll need a Wi-Fi ax router. Most won’t have one until such things are tossed around with every home broadband deal.More great stories from WIRED

SolarWinds updated its Storage Resource Monitor software with support for more all-flash arrays, reflecting the...
growing market. The vendor also gave its Server & Application Monitor the ability to provide deeper insight into servers and applications.
The SolarWinds Storage Resource Monitor (SRM) and Server & Application Monitor (SAM) products are part of the vendor's Orion Platform of network and system management and monitoring software. Other products in the modular Orion family include the Network Performance Monitor, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, Network Configuration Manager and Virtualization Manager.
The SolarWinds SRM 6.6 release adds support for Dell EMC Unity, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Nimble Storage, IBM FlashSystem V9000 and Infinidat InfiniBox all-flash arrays (AFAs).Focus on hot-selling midmarket AFAs
Ross Fujii, vice president of product strategy and management at SolarWinds, based in Austin, Texas, said the company focused on newer all-flash arrays that are "moving pretty fast in the midmarket" as replacements for older SANs and NAS devices.
SolarWinds collaborated with some of the vendors and their customers to develop a deep level of visibility for the newly supported storage arrays, Fujii said. For instance, SolarWinds worked closely with HPE Nimble's engineering team on many of its APIs to expose more data for monitoring the arrays' performance and capacity, LUNs and storage pools, he said.
The new support for HPE Nimble products is of particular interest to American Cement Co. (ACC). Jeremy Mayfield, IT director at ACC, based in Sumterville, Fla., said the company is a longtime SolarWinds customer. He said he hopes to use the Orion tools to test an HPE Nimble array that ACC is evaluating to simplify and consolidate its server and storage environment.
Mayfield said the HPE Nimble array is the front-runner to replace his company's Dell EMC VNX 5400 and HPE P2000 storage systems. With the new SolarWinds 6.6 update, ACC would be able to monitor the HPE Nimble system, along with ACC's network, business applications and databases, he said.
"The need to have SolarWinds doesn't go away. The [Nimble] system might have a very good way to monitor storage or hardware health. But it doesn't take SolarWinds long to catch up, so my investment won't be wasted moving forward," Mayfield said. The SolarWinds Orion suite has helped the 150-person cement producer to function with a two-man IT staff, he added.
SolarWinds' Orion products install on a Windows server or virtual machine and poll arrays, servers and endpoints to collect necessary data. They provide insight into configuration, performance, capacity, bandwidth and other monitoring metrics through a web-based dashboard. Its customers have the option to use software agents to gain deeper visibility into monitored systems.SolarWinds SAM track IOPS per LUN on SAN arrays End-to-end monitoring
The SolarWinds SRM product's integration with the SAM and Virtualization Manager software enables users to do end-to-end monitoring from applications and virtual servers to storage systems. Web servers are often linked to application servers that talk to databases, Fujii said, and it's important to determine the source of the problem.
"An admin is alerted that, 'Hey, we have an issue around this application,'" Fujii said. "The next troubleshooting step is to look into layers of the stack. Is this a virtualization problem? Is it in the application? Is it with my end users? Or, is it all the way down into my data or my storage?"
The SAM 6.6 update adds deeper insight into server interactions, network connections and application dependencies. It identifies the root cause of potential issues, such as packet loss, latency and network status. SAM monitors server, virtualized and cloud workloads, as well as local direct-attached storage, Fujii said.
SAM 6.6 also broadened its support for IBM systems with the addition of a new SolarWinds Orion Agent for IBM AIX.
SolarWinds SAM pricing starts at $2,995 for 150 monitoring metrics, with the first year of maintenance included. List pricing for SolarWinds SRM starts at $2,935 for 25 disks, also with the first year of maintenance included. Potential customers can download a free-trial copy SolarWinds SRM or SAM products for a 30-day evaluation.
